Cooper's Video Bonanza

My video is going to focus on the time management techniques of different students and guide new students to make good choices as it relates to time management. I feel like this is often an underappreciated topic when it comes to new students. High school was very structured, and college gives you the freedom to skip right over the work part and fall behind quickly. Of course, I intend to make it light hearted so it will keep the viewers’ attention. There is nothing worse than a boring video when you are trying to convey information. I am going to keep my questions focused on what time management techniques work for students, and which do not. This in turn will be for the student from fellow students and that is a very helpful. It is hard to listen to professors and teachers droning on about what you need to be doing, instead it comes from a source that a first year student can relate.

My questions will be:

What type of atmosphere do you work best in?

Do you allot a specific period to work in?

What mistakes do first year students make?

What mistakes did you make?

How do you avoid procrastination?

These questions give a good idea of what the nature of my questions will be. These questions are helpful to first year students because they are the ones students are often afraid to ask. The good thing about my questions is that they can be answered quickly; this will allow me to ask many different people and be able to put a broad spectrum of personalities into my video. Moreover, I will have cool music.

A Brief Look At The Life of Cooper Kean

I was disappointed in the daily log. Not misleading in any way, nor did I cheat the system and make up hours. It showed me I waste a lot of time. I spent over 18 hours each week with rugby, many hours sleeping, and an unspeakable amount of time reading. A shock to anyone who graces my blog, I love to read. I spent only eight hours a week on homework. I chalk it off as a testament to my deft academic skills. That is not for a lack of work actually completed. I proceeded to do my homework as soon as I was out of class, but after that, I have been making a habit of taking an hour to nap. I find myself in my room only for brief stints, to sleep, shower and read. My roommate and I barely see each other. But when I am in my room, I read. That is my biggest time killer, reading. After I nap and before I go to sleep each night, I will catch myself five hours into a book in a sitting, without noticing the time. I do not intend to cut anything out of my schedule, but perhaps by instead of breaking up my day napping, go to sleep a little earlier, and read less? Definitely not. “A whetstone is to a sword, as a book is to the mind. It serves to keep the wits sharp.” Or so my current book so boldly says. I plan to keep my mind sharp. I said to myself today that I eat up a lot of my time reading. And my eyes end up sore each night, but I find I can learn a lot about myself in my reading. That is why I read about pirates and knights. I am a child. That is how I lost the focus of what I was supposed to write about in my blog.

No Cotton Candy at the Club Fair

This past Wednesday, I attended the Involvement Fair in the academic quad. My role in the fair was a little bit different from many of people there I was answering questions. As part of the rugby team, it was required that I worked the booth and answered questions for at least a little bit of the event, and because I did not have any classes, I offered to stay the whole time. Unfortunately, that meant I was left alone at the booth most of the time. I never got the chance to look at any of the other booths. The only ones I got familiar with were, the hockey and cheerleading teams, across the sidewalk, and the women’s rugby team next to us. Although I never got the chance to learn about any other clubs, I am well versed in the men’s rugby team information.

The rugby team holds practice at 4-6 every Tuesday and Thursday, with team runs on Mondays and Wednesdays. Our game are on Saturdays and our next home game is next Saturday, the 29th.

Playing Teacher

When looking through the blogs, one that stood out is Faith’s blog. It has all the looks of an “A” blog. A background personalized creative title, and pictures that drew the eye to each individual blog post. What really impressed me was the quality of each of the blogs. It was impressive to see the variation in every blog. The safari posts were informative and succinct, while the longer blogs seemed to have no trouble capturing the interest of a reader throughout the whole post. She clearly understood what each assignment meant, and was familiar with what the professor expected of her. Faith’s blog was the embodiment of an “A” blog.

The second blog that struck me as an “A” is Taylor Rispoli’s blog. It had the most eye catching title, and although at first I glanced at it moving onto the blogs of students in my class. I eventually returned to it, ignoring my bias and becoming intrigued with the title. I reading the first blog post impressed me almost instantly. She has a very distinct voice; it seemed as if she was just casually talking to a friend. The warmth she exuded through her writing felt honest and genuine, and it was easy to read on. With no shortage of eye-catching titles, and a wealth of great ideas, I think she may do this for fun! It was the best blog, in terms of literature, I read thus far.

Many of the bloggers seemed to play the humble card when it came to judging their peers. I did not. I enjoy analyzing others and there was certainly plenty of quality blogs. Each one had a distinctive voice, and their personal interpretations of the assignments, which is always fun to explore. Although they had some stiff competition, these two stood apart, and truly earned an “A” from me.
